Square Wire Mesh
Product Overview – Precision Square Wire Mesh
Square wire mesh is a versatile industrial mesh product manufactured from low carbon iron wire. It features precision construction with uniform square openings, ensuring consistent performance across demanding applications. The mesh is produced using advanced weaving technology that guarantees accurate wire spacing and dimensional stability over long lengths.
This specialized square wire mesh serves multiple critical functions: sieving grain powder in agricultural processing, filtering liquid and gas in industrial filtration systems, and providing safety guards on machinery enclosures in manufacturing environments. Additionally, it is widely employed as wood strip reinforcement in wall and ceiling panel construction, offering structural integrity and fire resistance properties.
The wire diameter range (SWG 21# to 38#) and mesh counts (3 mesh/inch to 60 mesh/inch) allow customization for specific particle retention, flow rate, and mechanical strength requirements. Standard width options from 0.6 m to 1.5 m accommodate various frame sizes and installation configurations.
Diversified Manufacturing Methods & Material Options
Square wire mesh is available in four distinct production methods, each tailored to specific corrosion resistance, cost, and performance needs:
- Hot dipped galvanized after woven square iron wire mesh – The finished mesh is immersed in molten zinc, providing a thick, durable coating that withstands heavy outdoor exposure and abrasive environments. This method is ideal for mining screens, construction barriers, and long-term outdoor installations where corrosion resistance is paramount.
- Electric galvanized after woven square iron wire mesh – An electroplating process deposits a thinner zinc layer on the woven mesh. This cost-effective option suits indoor applications like machinery guards, storage cages, and interior partitions where moderate corrosion protection is sufficient. The smooth surface minimizes particle buildup in filtration applications.
- Galvanized before woven square iron wire mesh – Zinc-coated wire is used for weaving, ensuring complete penetration of the galvanized layer into the wire core. This method produces mesh with excellent corrosion protection even at welded intersections, making it suitable for liquid filtration systems and food processing equipment where hygiene and longevity are critical.
- PVC coated square wire mesh – (Additional option) A polyvinyl chloride coating adds extra durability, color coding, and UV resistance for architectural applications like garden fencing, animal enclosures, and decorative panels.
Each manufacturing process is ISO-certified, ensuring consistent wire tensile strength, mesh opening tolerance (±0.1 mm for standard sizes), and zinc coating weight compliance with ASTM A90/A90M standards.
Key Applications & Industry-Specific Use Cases
Square wire mesh serves industries requiring reliable separation, protection, and structural support:
- Construction and building materials – Used for sand and gravel screening, concrete reinforcement (when combined with wood strips), ceiling hanger supports, plaster base mesh, and wall cladding ventilation. The rigid square pattern distributes load evenly, reducing crack propagation in cementitious materials.
- Mining and mineral processing – Fits into vibrating screen decks for coal, ore, and aggregate sorting. The uniform mesh openings ensure accurate particle size classification, improving recovery rates in beneficiation plants. Mesh counts from 3 mesh to 60 mesh accommodate run-of-mine to fine powder screening stages.
- Chemical and pharmaceutical filtration – Filters liquid and gas streams in reactors, scrubbers, and dryers. Stainless steel variants resist corrosive chemicals, while galvanized options handle less aggressive media. The square pattern provides laminar flow characteristics, reducing pressure drop across the filter medium.
- Machinery safety and ventilation – Installed as machine guards, conveyor belt covers, and fan inlet/outlet screens. The open area (typically 40%–60%) allows airflow while preventing access to hazardous moving parts, meeting OSHA and CE machinery safety directives.
- Agricultural processing – Sieves grain powder (wheat, corn, rice) and seeds for cleaning and grading. The non-static surface of galvanized mesh prevents grain adherence, maintaining throughput efficiency during peak harvest seasons.
- Aquaculture and water treatment – Fish pond filtration, water intake strainers, and aeration diffuser covers require corrosion-resistant mesh that withstands continuous water immersion without rust contamination.
Technical Specifications & Standard Sizes
The square wire mesh is available in a comprehensive range of wire diameters and mesh counts to meet diverse industrial requirements. Below is the full specification table for standard stock items. Custom sizes can be produced upon request for large-volume orders (minimum 100 rolls per specification).

The wire diameter (SWG) determines the mechanical strength and open area percentage. For example, a 3 mesh X 21# mesh (3 openings per inch, 21 SWG wire) offers high load capacity for heavy aggregate screening, while a 60 mesh X 38# mesh provides fine filtration for powder handling. Standard packaging: each roll is wrapped in waterproof paper and polypropylene woven bag, with wooden pallet protection for export shipments.
